9 Great Online Resources for Web Designers

The Internet is a web designer’s best friend. Aside from allowing us to make a living where we can avoid any hot, messy or dangerous situations; the Internet has all the information you need to resolve tricky website issues or learn something completely new to improve your web design skills.

Some of the sites listed below are developer focused and also cover languages such as Java and PHP. Other sites look at web design from a design perspective and also contain information on graphic design. There are also a couple of WordPress specific sites that I have added as I tend to work with mostly WordPress sites.

w3schools.com

“The world’s largest web developer site” contains tutorials and references for HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, PHP, bootstrap and JQuery. This site is my go to when I need to remember the syntax of something that I half remember how to do.

css-tricks.com

This site contains articles from various contributors discussing CSS and other aspects of web design. The comments on the articles also provide an interesting perspective on the topics discussed. I like this site for the more philosophical questions of web design (how big should this be? how fast should that be? etc) and for the great tutorials.

Stack Overflow

If you are having a problem with HTML or CSS chances are someone has already had the same problem. The stack overflow forums allow people to ask the community for solutions to issues that they are having with their site. A word of warning, finding your exact issue raised on stack overflow with no answers against it is a very deflating experience.

this site covers both web and graphic design. Creative Bloq also contains a lot of information on the industry and how to further your career as a designer.

I am not going to lie, I usually start on Google and see which one of my favourite sites puts their hand up with a solution. For website owners google has a series of tools that allow to analyse website traffic and performance. Google adSense also provides a very easy solution for displaying ads on your website. Remember to never google Google or you will break the Internet.

Pinterest

Pinterest is a great place to find blogs on web design. You can also find lots of beautiful webpage layouts for inspiration.
